Unfortunately, breast cancer affects a large part of the female population between 40 and 60 years of age, but it is a reality that if it is detected early, it can be treated, and women can recover their lives perfectly. For this reason, today we will solve the most frequent doubts that arise around this condition so that more people know the benefits of prevention and early detection of this disease.

What is breast cancer?

It occurs when there is an abnormal and unlimited growth of the cells of the breast tissue, causing irregularities in the breast. Currently, 93 percent of breast cancer is curable if detected early, which is why the Mexican Health Department has made great efforts to encourage women to have a monthly check-up to prevent major risks to their health.

Why is an early detection so important?

Breast cancer is a disease that, if left untreated, can spread throughout the chest, and even to other parts of the body, making it more difficult to eliminate, even when all tumors are removed. For this reason, medical specialists mention that at the time the condition is detected, immediate action must be taken to prevent the damage from being irreversible. The most effective way to prevent it is for women to perform a breast self-examination (check-up that is done at home to look for changes or deformations in the breast tissue) at least once a month, since this will make it easier to detect if there is any strange lump or changes in your physiognomy. If it is perceived, you should go immediately to a specialist doctor to analyze it.

Can breast cancer be prevented?

Although there is no treatment to prevent breast cancer, there are different preventive measures to reduce the probability of contracting this disease:

  • Eat a balanced diet high in fiber and protein.
  • Reduce consumption of processed sugars and saturated fats.
  • Increase weekly physical activity.
  • Maintain a healthy weight.
  • Avoid the consumption of alcohol and nicotine.
  • Perform self-examination from the age of 20
  • Request an annual mammogram starting at age 34.

It is important to follow each of these recommendations, since leading a healthy life will help prevent many diseases, including breast cancer.

We know that it can be overwhelming to hear all this information, even sad to talk about this topic, but as you could notice, today it is a completely curable disease if the appropriate measures are taken. Remember that your health is the most important thing, explore yourself and act on time, you only live once.
